Colne Road Embankment redevelopment

Working with our partners at Pendle Borough Council and Lancashire County Council, we are leading on the redevelopment of the seating area at the former railway embankment alongside the A56 Colne Road to improve its appearance and appeal to residents, visitors and those working in the town.

Former Railway Embankment

Whilst the land is owned by Pendle Borough Council with LCC assets present in the area as well, Earby Town Council has secured funding through the government’s Pride in Place initiative to improve this key area and important gateway to the town centre.

In the coming weeks we aim to improve the visual amenity of the site by;

  • Removing the dated, rusty steel planters and replace them with two large planted areas at ground level which will better support sustainable drainage and management of appropriate perennial plants during periods of drought.
  • Replace the dated concrete flagged area with a more attractive, modern, permeable surface which will better support sustainable drainage and reduce the amount of surface water run off to the highway and the nearby beck.
  • Update the seating, waste bins, grit bin and introduce temporary cycle storage and maintenance equipment.
  • Introduce new planting to the embankment, including a new hedgerow to enhance habitat and shield the industrial units from view.
  • Repair the stone walls and steps.
  • Remove redundant road signage and relocate signage directing motorists to the retail area.

We will endeavor to keep disruption to a minimum whilst implementing these changes. All the work is funded by central government through the Pride In Place Impact Fund. Please use the Contact page if you have any questions about the project.
